How To Apply
You can apply for federal financial aid online through the FAFSA by clicking here. When prompted to enter in a school code, you should type 026171. (This will automatically send your financial aid information to BRC.) If you do not already have a pin, you need to apply for one at www.pin.ed.gov .
You will need a COMPLETED (DO NOT USE AN ESTIMATED TAX RETURN) copy of your 2010 tax return and W2’s when applying for federal financial aid. If you do not have a copy of your 2010 tax return, you may find out how to obtain this information by clicking here.
All students applying for aid, must complete the following:
- 2012-2013 FAFSA online, www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Completed copies of 2011 W2′s (including spouse or parents, if applicable)
- Signed Copies of 2011 Tax Return (including signed tax return from spouse or parents, if applicable)

Independent Students are generally defined as those students who are age 24 or older and/or married and/or with eligible dependents. Dependent students are those students with no eligible dependents and/or not married and/or less than 24 years of age. Students may be considered “independent” if they fall into certain risk categories. Dependency status is not determined based on how your tax returns were filed with the IRS. Whether or not a parent claimed a student on their tax return has no bearing on dependency status. If you are unsure of your dependency status, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 225-292-5464.
