Internships
Internship Options (1, 3, and 6 Semester Credit Hours)
A student may only enroll in 6 total SCH’s of internships per semester.
Course Title: Exploratory Internship GIS-001 (1 SCH)
This internship credit will count towards the Paralegal Diploma Program and/or Paralegal AAS Degree Program.
This internship may substitute for PL classes in the Paralegal Diploma Programs; however, it is a requirement for the Paralegal AAS Degree Program.
Course Description: The internship assists students in obtaining work experiences prior to graduation. These positions may be paid or unpaid, and occur during regular semesters. Students are encouraged to intern as early in the program as possible however, it is recommended that the student have successfully completed at least one semester at BRC prior to starting their internship. The student will complete 45 hours of on-the-job training. Because of the limited hours involved, the sponsoring agency may have the student perform minimal tasks, such as exploratory activities and observation. This component of the program is designed to serve as a practical application of the classroom training. A limited number of internships are available through sponsoring law firms. Selection of students and arranging work schedules is done by the sponsoring firm or agency. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal contact to find an internship site. In addition, the internship will foster a greater self-confidence in the student as a working professional.
Course Objective: Under the supervision of a person in the student’s field of study, the student becomes involved through observation and exploratory experience in various areas of the law, such as clerical duties, client interviews, legal research, brief preparation, trial preparation, and post-trial documentation, depending on his/her selected intern site. The student will have an opportunity to be introduced to office practice and the skills involved in his/her chosen career.
Course Title: Legal Assistant Internship GIS-101 (3 SCH)
This internship credit will count towards the Paralegal Diploma Program and/or Paralegal AAS Degree Program
This internship may substitute for PL classes in the Paralegal Diploma Programs; however, it is a requirement for the Paralegal AAS Degree Program.

The student will complete 135 hours of on-the-job training. This component of the program is designed to serve as a practical application of the classroom training. A limited number of internships are available through sponsoring law firms, governmental agencies, and bar associations. Selection of students and arranging work schedules is done by the sponsoring agency. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal contacts to find an internship site. In addition, the internship will foster a greater self-confidence in the student as a working professional.

Course Title: Paralegal Internship GIS-201 (6 SCH)
This internship is required for the Paralegal Diploma Program and credit rolls forward to the Paralegal AAS Degree Program.
Course Description: The internship assists students in obtaining work experiences prior to graduation. These positions may be paid or unpaid, and occur during the regular semesters. Students are encouraged to intern as early in the program as possible since it makes the classroom instruction more meaningful to the student. However, it is recommended that the student have successfully completed at least one semester at BRC prior to starting their internship. The student will complete 270 hours of on-the-job training. This component of the program is designed to serve as a practical application of the classroom training. A limited number of internships are available through sponsoring law firms, governmental agencies, and bar associations. Selection of students and arranging work schedules is done by the sponsoring agency. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal contacts to find an internship site. In addition, the internship will foster a greater self-confidence in the student as a working professional.

Students interested in working on their internship hours, must complete the required documentation and receive approval prior to logging hours. Those students who do not register for the internships according to BRC requirements will not receive credit.
