Examination Preparation Courses
Course Title: CLA Exam Preparation Course GEP-101
Semester Credit Hours: 3
Prerequisite: Completion of 60 Semester Credit Hours
Course Description: The NALA Certified Legal Assistant Examination is a thorough exam that covers the numerous areas of the law in which paralegals are required to have adequate proficiency: legal terminology, communications, ethics, legal research, general law, bankruptcy law, business law, criminal law, and family law- to name a few. This course is designed to prepare students that successfully complete the Associate’s Degree program for the CLA examination. Each section will highlight the topics included in the exam. A practice test for each topic will be provided to test student understanding. This class will be considered the student’s “study group” to enforce cooperative learning and study under the guidance of an instructor. Students will be required to read the text and study the information individually as well.
Course Objective: This course will provide students interested in becoming certified a chance to be introduced to the exam, study cooperatively, and understand fully what to expect when they take the examination. The ultimate goal is for every student that takes the CLA to pass and become more marketable, certified paralegals.
Course Title: PACE Preparation Course GEP-102
Prerequisite: completion of Paralegal AAS Degree program.
Course Description: The NFPA Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) is a thorough exam that covers five domains in which paralegals are required to have adequate proficiency: Administration of Client Legal matters; Development of Client Legal Matters; Factual and Legal Research; Factual and Legal Writing; and Office Administration. This course is designed to prepare students that successfully complete the Associate’s Degree program for the PACE. Each section will highlight the topics included in the exam. A practice test for each topic will be provided to test student understanding. This class will be considered the students’ “study group” to enforce cooperative learning and study under the guidance of an instructor. Students will be required to read the text and study the information individually as well.

Course Title: Louisiana Notary Examination Preparation Course GEP-103
Semester Credit Hours: 6
Prerequisite: Completion of 58 Semester Credit Hours.
Course Description: Through extensive study, students will be provided with the essential knowledge needed to take the Notary Examination. Students will be given an overview of a Notary’s duties and a specific review of the subjects tested on the examination. This class will be considered the student’s “study group” to enforce cooperative learning and study under the guidance of an instructor. Students will be required to read the text and study the information individually as well. In that the exam varies from parish to parish this course does not prepare the student to pass the exam, only to explore the area that are likely to be tested on the exam, in most parishes.
